today reached me some nice words about "the silent flame" album...
they're from matthik from the band area24

nu hab ich dein album zum dritten mal (und zum zweiten mal ganz in ruhe) gehört

dabei dachte ich ständig, ich befinde mich auf einer reise auf einem langen und nicht immer ruhigen fluss, der manche überraschungen bietet, aber stets den roten faden bewahrt, machmal recht kräftige wendungen nimmt, aber nicht verletzt,
sich dann wieder sehr zärtlich und sanft gestaltet, aber nicht langweilig wird.

das gesellt sich prima zu meinem kleinen cd-schatz der auserwählten, neben "The Mission" und so ;-)

Place4Tears bekam einen hübschen artikel im NEGAtief magazin... der artikel wurde aus folgendem interview geschrieben...

1. Hallo zusammen. Interessant ist, dass Ihr eigentlich schon seit 2004 aktiv seid, anfangs jedoch unter dem Bandnamen Blurred Lipstick. Wieso habt ihr Euch 2005 in Place4Tears umbenannt?

Der Name Blurred Lipstick entstand eigentlich aus der Idee heraus dem „Zielpublikum“ etwas zu geben womit sie schon etwas anfangen können. Klar sollte damals der „Blurred Lipstick“ an den viel Angeprisenen des Robert Smith erinnern. Nunja, sonderlich viel genützt hat diese Idee jedenfalls nicht. So war es an der Zeit den Namen zu ändern. Einmal nur und dann für immer. Place4tears drückt in Worten aus was man akustisch auf dem Tonträger erwarten kann. Obendrein konnte man damals Place4tears nicht Googlen im Gegensatz zu Blurred Lipstick wo man tausende Einträge finden konnte. Allerdings hatten die meistens nichts mit der Band gemein.

2. Auch wenn der Name nicht ewig währen sollte, so doch die Zusammensetzung der Bandmitglieder. Was ist die Grundlage für Eure Zusammenarbeit und wie funktioniert sie?

Oh, doch dieser Name wird ewig währen. Noch eine Änderung wird es ganz sicher nicht geben. Ich bin durchaus sehr zufrieden damit.
Die Grundlage unserer Zusammenarbeit klingt sicher sehr klischeebehaftet, aber ich denke das es schlichtweg die Freude am Musizieren ist und des gemeinsamen Gedankenaustauschs. Wie sie funktioniert?... Mmmmh... meistens fange ich an einen Song zu schreiben. Nur Skizzen. Bass-, Gitarren- oder Synthyskizzen die dann verschickt, begutachtet und weiterentwickelt werden. Der Hauptbestandteil dessen was musikalisch dargestellt werden soll, kommt auf alle Fälle von mir (tyves) dicht gefolgt von meinem lieben Schuchy. Wer unsere Musik und die Leute dazu kennt, kann fast zu 100% sagen wer welchen Song „vorskizziert“ hat.

3. Gebt doch bitte mal für die Leser, denen ihr noch fremd seid, eine kurze Zusammenfassung der Bandgeschichte wieder. Wie habt ihr Euch kennengelernt? Was waren Eure Höhepunkte, wie kam es zum Plattenvertrag?

Drei Viertel der Band kennen sich bereits schon aus einem früheren Bandprojekt namens Wält (gegründet 1994 als Kälteeinbruch). Als sich 2003 heraus kristallisierte das Wält früher oder später den Löffel abgeben wird, habe ich damit begonnen Kompositionen für den „Eigenbedarf“ aufzunehmen. Nun da Gitarre spielen aber nicht wirklich zu meinen Qualitäten gehört, fragte ich Schuchy ob er nicht Lust hätte trotzdem weiter Musik zu machen nur eben in einem neuen Projekt. Hierzu kam noch Sabine die ebenfalls in Wält schon das ein oder andere Gesangstückchen beigetragen hat und schon waren wir zu dritt. Rein zufällig ergab es sich das Schuchy noch Julia begegnete (während der Wohnungssuche), sie ins Gespräch kamen und er sie kurzerhand einfach mal zu einer Bandprobe mitbrachte. Tataaaa und wir waren komplett. Zum Plattenvertrag kam es eher zufällig durch meine Zusammenarbeit mit Jörg Tochtenhagen vom Label Echozone. Ich arbeite mit ihm zusammen an mehreren Projekten als es dann auch mal zufällig zur Sprache kam das ich selbst auch Musik mache. Jörg mochte unsere Musik sehr gerne und bot uns darauf hin einen Deal an. Ich schätze Jörgs Arbeit sehr und er ist mir ein wahrer Freund geworden. Also was will man mehr?

4. Interessant ist, dass ihr im Laufe der Jahre, vor Eurem bald kommenden Album ‘The Silent Flame’, nur ein Album herausgebracht habt und zwar Heavenly Fields. Jedoch seid ihr auf vielen Compilations wiederzufinden. Gibt es dafür einen Grund und wie ist darauf die Resonanz der Hörer bzw. auch der Vertriebsfirmen?

Ja, das hatte zumeist persönliche Gründe.Umzug, neuer Job, keine Zeit mehr sich zu treffen oder der Weg war einfach zu weit den man für ein Treffen hätte zurücklegen müssen. Dennoch hielt ich durch diese Compilationbeiträge das Place4tears-Flämmchen immer schön am flackern. Die Resonanz von denen die das Album bis jetzt gehört haben war eigentlich zu meinem Erstaunen recht positiv. Mmmh, wahrscheinlich auch weil selbst wenn mir mal jemand sagte er sei nach dem 3. Song eingeschlafen ich das als überaus positiv werte. Es ist kein clubtaugliches Album und ich bezeichne es selbst als Afterwork Music. Zum entspannen, ausruhen und Kraft tanken, somit hat es sofort seinen Zweck erfüllt wenn dabei jemand einschläft.

5. An dieser Stelle möchte ich Euch ein Lob aussprechen. Euer Stil ist sehr erfrischend in der heutigen Musik-Mode der Schwarzen Szene, die hörbar immer mehr in eine reine elektronisch/rocklastige Schiene rutscht. Was bewegt bzw. inspiriert Euch, teils so experimentel und vielseitig zu musizieren?

Vielen Dank, freut mich wenns gefällt. Ich denke es liegt hauptsächlich am unterschiedlichen Musikgeschmack den Schuchy und ich haben, das sich die Musik etwas „vielfältiger“ präsentiert. Jeder von uns beiden trägt sein Stückchen dazu bei und heraus kommt eben genau das was du auf „The Silent Flame“ hören kannst. Ich bin der Meinung wenn ich alter Melancholiker wirklich ein ganzes Album komplett alleine schreiben würde, würde dann in den Gazetten stehen: „Wieder einer Tot aufgefunden, hatte erst kürzlich Place4tears gehört!“ lach... Ich mag die Mischung sehr so wie sie ist und Schuchy ist ein sehr wichtiger Bestandteil der Band.

6. Eure Selbstdarstellung auf Bildern und in einigen Songs erinnert irgendwie ein bisschen an musikalische Größen der 80er, wie The Cure oder Cocteau Twins. Ist das ungewollt oder Absicht?

Der Bezug zu den Achtzigern ist mir persönlich immens wichtig. Damals war Gruftiemusik noch Gruftiemusik, weil wie du schon selbst angemerkt hast, ist davon ja leider nicht mehr all so viel übrig und ich sehe meine Inspirationsquellen ganz deutlich in den Achtzigern und Neunzigern. The Cure spielen hierbei eine sehr große Rolle, aber auch Bands die wiederum von The Cure inspiriert worden sind wie Slowdive oder Lovespirals Downwards. Zu Cocteau Twins muss ich zu meiner Schande ehrlich gestehen das ich die erst kenne seit wir unsere Sachen anderen Leuten wie DJ's etc. zugänglich gemacht haben und diese meinten: „Hey, ihr klingt ja wie die Cocteau Twins!“ und ich meinte: „Hä? Wer?“ Ähnlich ging es mir als mir gesagt wurde wir würden wie Strange Boutique klingen. Kannte ich bis dato auch nicht, habe mir ein Album zugelegt und gedacht: „Verflixt, die haben recht!“ Somit war die Idee ein klein wenig etwas Neues zu kreieren zwar sofort zu nichte gemacht worden, aber zusammen mit diesen Namen fühle ich mich sehr wohl und in guter Gesellschaft.

7. Wie seid ihr überhaupt zur Schwarzen Szene gekommen? Ab welchen Punkt Eures Leben habt ihr Euch mit der Musik und diesem Lebenststil identifizieren können? Was zum Beispiel fasziniert oder ärgert Euch an der Szene von heute?

Ich bin „offiziell“ erst 1991 in die Szene gestolpert. Innerlich gefühlt habe ich mich schon sehr früh wie heute, nur nach außen getragen habe ich es nicht. Vielleicht aus Angst verspottet zu werden. Immerhin hätte ich da sehr alleine auf weiter Flur gestanden. Aber dann gab es ein bestimmtes Ereignis in meinem Leben das mich sagen ließ: „Nun aber gut mit dem Versteckspiel!“ Faszinieren tut mich nach wie vor die Freundlichkeit der Leute. Ich habe ganz ehrlich gesagt bis heute keinen Gruftie gesehen der sich mit einem anderen „Leidensgenossen“ geschlagen hat. Du?! Etwas auf den Magen schlägt mir hingegen die immer mehr voran schreitende Kommerzialisierung. Heute geht’s nur noch ums Geld. Sicher bei den heutigen Preisen um sein Leben finanzieren zu können auch kein Wunder.

8. Die Grundstimmung Eurer Musik ist zum Großteil sehr melancholisch... ist das die Verarbeitung eigener Gefühle, oder möchtet Ihr bewusst die Emotionen der Hörer ansprechen?

Es ist ganz klar der „eigene-Gefühle-verarbeiten-Teil“ der hier den Großteil der Rolle übernimmt... sicherlich ist es aber auch eine schöne Sache wenn man mit seinen eigenen Gefühlen Leute zum nachdenken, träumen, lachen oder weinen anregen kann. Im besten Fall sogar inspirierend auf das eigene Leben oder künstlerische Schaffen einwirken kann. Außerdem liebe ich Melancholie und lebe diese Liebe auch in der Musik aus. Ich kann einfach keine fröhlichen Songs schreiben. Zahllose Versuche scheiterten kläglich und kamen eher unfreiwillig komisch rüber. Letztendlich habe ich mir einfach abgewöhnt fröhliche Songs schreiben zu wollen und fahre mit dieser Variante viel besser.

9. Was macht Ihr eigentlich sonst so in Eurer Freizeit, wenn ihr nicht musiziert? Ihr scheint Euch ja nicht nur auf die Musik zu beschränken, wenn man sich mal Euren Bandblog zu Gemüte führt (http://www-place4tears.blogspot.com/).

Ich zum Beispiel bringe noch ein Goth-Magazin raus. Das Crawling Tunes.
Das bedeutet Arbeit für eine ganze Horde. Macht aber ohne Ende Spaß und man lernt immer wieder neue, interessante Bands und Künstler kennen.

10. Was wünscht Ihr Euch für die Band-Zukunft? Stehen bereits Pläne an, was nach dem Albumrelease kommen soll?

Etwas später, nach dem Release wird es noch ein weiteres, allerdings rein digital veröffentlichtes Album geben, welches ein Sammelsurium vergangener Jahre und einiger Neuer bis dato unveröffentlichter Songs und Mixe ergeben wird.

i just found an old review about "the silent flame" was written in
SONIC SEDUCER magazine 02/2007 by Torsten Schäfer.
it's very good... look...

"Ach, waren das noch Zeiten. Damals in den Achtzigern, als die Cocteau Twins noch wegweisende Platten aufnahmen und auch Clan Of Xymox noch meilenweit von halbgaren Futurepop-Experimenten entfernt waren. In diese Nische jedenfalls schlägt der Eisenacher Tyves Oben mit seinem Projekt Place4Tears. Tränen werden zwar weniger vergossen, dafür aber himmlische Gitarren gezupft, die sich fast in endlosem Hall verlieren. Gerade am späten Abend entfaltet „The Silent Flame“ seine Wirkung und wärmt die Ohren mit einem musikalischen Kaminfeuer, das betört, beruhigt und besänftigt. Nichts für die Clubs also, aber wenn Place4Tears in diesen stattfinden wollten, hätten sie schließlich eine gänzlich andere Platte aufgenommen. Stattdessen regiert bei ihnen König Old School und so findet sich in Songs wie „Keep Me Back“ auch mal die ein oder andere Gitarrensequenz, die man zuletzt vor etwa 20 Jahren gehört hat. Zum Glück besitzt „The Silent Flame“ genug Eigenständigkeit, um nicht in Zitaten und Referenzen zu versinken. So kann man sich beruhigt eine Platte im DVD-Format ins Regal stellen, die in ruhigen Momenten immer mal wieder hervorgeholt wird."

PLACE4TEARS - "the silent flame" [18 Tracks] (englisches Original zu finden unter http://djdeath.livejournal.com)
"The Silent Flame" ist eine selbst produzierte und selbst finanzierte Veröffentlichungvon einer exzellenten Band namens PLACE4TEARS. In dieses Album wurde eine Menge Arbeit gesteckt. Ebenso wie in das aufwendigund grafisch sehr schön gestaltete Layout. Das Album hat ein sehr düsteres, himmlisches feeling. Die Sorte von Sound die man nur all zu leicht mit Bands wie Dead Can Dance,Lycia, Mira und dem Projekt Label sound assoziiert. Tracks wie "My Private End" sind recht flink und würden den Fans von Mephisto Walz sehr gut gefallen. Der Gesang ist eine Mischung aus weiblichen und männlichen Parts welcher nicht sofort den einzigartigen Sound der CD erahnen lässt. "The Call of the mermaid" schimmert durch das Trommelfell. "Dream sequence - no doubt you're murdered" und "Tödliche Freiheit" weisen beide Spuren der frühen Faith & the Muse auf. "Yearning" neigt ebenfalls sehr dazu nach Mephisto Walz zu klingen. "Who Knows?" verbreitet eine gespenstische Atmosphäre mit einem entspannenden Effekt ohne dabei auf einen gespenstischen Text zurück greifen zu müssen. "Illusion" ist wieder ein Track voller Hoffnung. "Septembers Breath" bringt weitere grossartige Gitarrenarbeit, im Stil von Strange Boutique, This Burning Effigy & Mephisto Walz, zu Tage. Es wäre sehr interessant zu hören in wie weit sich die Musik entwickeln würde, wenn dazu mehr Zeit in einem professionellen Studio verwendet werden könnte und ein Label der Band ein Angebot zu Verbreitung der Scheibe machen würde. Ich bin sicher das PLACE4TEARS ein grösseres Publikum erreichen würden, welches in den Wellen der wirbelnden Gitarren ertrinken würde. Das Album ist eine wirklich gut bearbeitete Komposition und es gäbe wieder eine Band die viel gösser werden würde als sie jetzt sind.

this album is quite disconcerting: we encounter in their universe the ghosts of Cocteau Twins, Trance to the Sun and a touch of Slowdive, The Cure and this is spiced up with some ambient experimentations. We seek a comforting feeling through all these bare orchestrations where spirals of guitars sometimes close to My Bloody Valentine shoegaze whirl between slow beats od the drum programming, these alternances between the easing female voices and the sometimes sad or dandy-like male ones... and we don't it really. We let ourselves be ravished by the voluptuous trance of the marvellous "riding the waves home", "love sick" or " be a queen"voluntarily disbalanced by the insane feeling we hardly recognize, caused by the cold keyboards on "who knows" or by hars attacks on "dream sequence" nothing is harsh or ironic in my description and this is the quality of this album that caresses, push back, pinches, goes from the soft and almost naive "the syn might come up" to th wrongly cold heavenly on "toedliche frieheit", and all this shapes a coherent album. This little game can only be perceptible to the only ones who will listen to it with a very careful ear as it is an ethereal progression that is going to melt with the fog before the spleen on "september's breath" (that is neat to Trance to the Sun) comes to give back more dynamism to the numb dreams. Imagine Black tape for a blue girl's spirit captured in a body of sounds inspired by Cocteau Twins, Trance to the Sun and My Bloody Valentine, the all gbeen through coldwave and then you will get a very vague idea of the ambiances of this album that rocks and drowns us at the same time. Very disconcerting but very enticing album!!

a friend from myspace wrote a very nice mail to me after i sent him our "the silent flame" album to hongkong... his name is pak & he wrote the following lines:

Hello Tyves! How's going. I have been quite busy this week and so I only have little time to pay full attention to the CD. Anyway, it has been in my cd player for this whole week, which means I love what I have heard. I like the packaging and the arwork inside. The music is very well produced and the music is ethereal, deep, atmospheric and beautiful. I think this is a piece of work with many elements like Gothic, Darkwave, Heavenly Voices, Shoegazermixed harmoniously."Silent Flame" reminds me work from Trance to The Sun, The Cure, Cocteau Twins, bands from Projekt..etc.. But I think it's still unique because the atmosphere, emotion, cohesion and profoundity stands on its own. I enjoy the whole experience. My favorite tracks go to "Riding the waves home", "princess valium", "Septembers breah". i think i hope some of the songs can be devloped further, because they stop when I find them very interesting. Maybe I'm asking too much :-). The Cd length is a bit too long, and i 'm a bit lost in the middle if I don't pay attention to the music. But it's just a minor thing. "Tears of avalon" sounds a bit "unnatural" to me. Maybe it's because of the mixing? I don't know. They are just some minor mistakes. I'm actually more than happy to have this CD in my CD collection. If I have received this CD in 2006, i will put it as my top 10 CD. But i guess it's my top 2007 anyway. Very nice. Keep working! I hope to listen more from place4tears :-). I have 2 questions. There is a german song on "the silent flame". What 's it about and why did you write the lyrics in German? And are you guys going to tour or something? Lastly, Thank you soooooooooooooooooooooooo much for the good music. I like your music embracing me and keep me moving. Pak

I have taken a break, and listened to all your tracks. I must say that I am impress by the heart the songs have. You know it, the Gothic movment has been really soiled by clones, TV, and so on...And it is really hard to find bands who ARE true. Your sounds are cold and melancholic, and communicate really something deep. This is not like fake bands trying to sound like something on purpose. I am really glad to know that in some places in the world, some people have something true to offer. I'll let a comment on your page. Chris.
